Officials from the municipality, police and health departments will meet next week to continue work towards a central database for food safety complaints. Creating a central tracking system will allow hospitals to reduce the impact of food-borne infection outbreaks.

The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) intensified its food safety inspections at various food establishments throughout the emirate to ensure there were no food risks threatening the consumers ahead of the holy month. Out of a total of 1783 inspection visits targeting food suppliers, retailers and warehouses. There were 67 violations detected and 872 warnings issued. These visits resulted in the closure of 18 food establishments and the destruction of 8084 tons of foods unfit for human consumption. However, not a single case of food poisoning was reported in the month of July from the targeted establishments.

In some U.S., Canadian and Australian states/municipalities require at least one person at a restaurant or food outlet to have some food safety training, even if that person is at home in bed. Others require training for everyone who touches food; others require nothing. The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) is way ahead when it announced that all employees who handle food must be trained in hygiene by the end of 2012
