Public concern has been expressed as a consequence of rumors of a meeting between Syrian, Saudi, and Jordanian representatives that will reconsider resuming export of native Syrian sheep (Awasi and Naeemi) to Saudi Arabia through Jordan. This concern is attributed to past experience of re-emergence of FMD resulting from such exporting operations, leading to substantial economical losses in the Syrian livestock market.

2 Feb 2008
Arab Times Online [edited]
The number of animals infected with foot-and-mouth disease [FMD] in Sulaibiya has increased lately due to the failure of the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) to inoculate these animals, the deputy chairman of Kuwait Animal Resources Society (KARS) told Al-Anba. Al-Basman also blamed the livestock traders who off loaded imported cows at the ports without giving proper vaccination to the animals in addition to the absence of a veterinary clinic in the area. Al-Bader confirmed the reported cases were isolated and the authority took the necessary precautionary measures to put the situation under control.
