Victims were also recommended to tell their doctors about their occupation and location of their houses to allow an accurate diagnosis. Due to its flu-like symptoms and potentially long incubation period, melioidosis can be difficult to diagnose. A 2nd Belgian was infected after being hospitalized after an accident during a trip to his native Montenegro, but recovered following treatment in Belgium. He was infected by a bacterium that carried the gene New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase (NDM-1) that makes ordinary bacteria such as E. coli resistant to almost all antibiotics. The raw pork and raw pork blood were bought from a mobile van vendor on the 31st of July, 2010 and eaten on the same day. Later that day, she developed a high fever and was sent to a hospital. She died on August 8th. Two people who shared the same meal also developed fever and were sent to hospitals. The examination showed that they had serious infections. This is considered a disease commonly acquired by eating raw meat, particularly raw pork or raw pork blood. The illness is caused by the bacterium Streptococcus suis and symptoms include high fever and deafness. The victims consumed religious offerings during a mass meal. Approximately 400 people were invited to the religious function and almost all of them were affected by food poisoning. At least 80 persons were taken ill after consuming contaminated food at a function in East Godavari district, police reportedly said on Friday.
The incident took place when one Nallaiah had organised a family function at his place on Thursday.
Over 100 persons attended the function and fell sick after consuming the contaminated eatables, they told media sources, adding that some vomited the food and also fell unconscious.

The total number of anthrax cases in humans in Orissa's Koraput district since last month [May 2010] has risen to 18 with health officials on Wednesday [9 Jun 2010] confirming 5 more victims in the region.
Last month [May 2010], at least 13 people of 2 villages under neighbouring Dasmantpur block were treated after they were found to have the infection.
India-Food poisoning: four dead, 269 ill in Jhalod taluka

Indian Express [edited][FSNet] A 35-year-old woman died and over 148 new cases of food poisoning were reported in Jhalod taluka of Dahod district on Tuesday. This has taken the total number of affected people to 269 with four dead. A day earlier, three children had died and 121 people had fallen sick after eating stale food at different wedding parties. A team of medical officers from Vadodara has been rushed to Jhalod to handle the situation. They say there were over 12 wedding ceremonies across the taluka on Monday where the people had consumed food, which had turned stale due to the extreme weather.

Four persons have died due to cholera in Theni district, and over 600 people have been treated for diarrhea in the last 6 days, causing fear in Uthamapalayam and surrounding regions of the district.
As many as 234 patients in Theni and 186 in Uthamapalayam and its neighboring villages had been treated for diarrhea-related diseases.
Outbreaks of diarrhea were also reported from Chinnamanur, Bodi and other areas of Theni district. More than 100 persons were admitted to the government medical college in Theni and government hospitals, PHCs and private hospitals.

Three children have died over the last three days in a case of suspected food poisoning. On Thursday, two brothers, ages 14 and 12, passed away. And on Saturday, a three-year-old, whose family had come for the last rites, too succumbed after eating 'poha' that was served.
Fifteen others too have been admitted to the hospital after falling sick. Two other relatives who had left after consuming poha fell unconscious in the train while returning home. Passengers stopped the train and rushed them to a private hospital at Kamptee.

Sixty-eight 68 people fell ill due to food poisoning at Hirekumbi village on Friday.
Of the 100 people who had taken food at a religious program in the village, 68 of them vomited and fell down. A team of health department officials has opened a mobile clinic to treat the patients, whose situation is said to be under control. Samples of food and water have been tested.

Between 15 and 16 Mar 2010, 942 patients were admitted to the hospital and another 264 were admitted on 17 Mar 2010 after being affected by the waterborne infection of cholera, hospital sources were quoted as saying.

Many of the students who were hospitalized due to poisoning of food in the Matale district have left the hospitals. A spokesman reportedly said a total of 114 students from 3 schools in Matale were admitted to the hospital after consuming the noon meal provided to them by the school on 10 Feb 2010. A grade 4 student of the Buddhagosha Vidyalaya died on admission to the hospital. One supplier has supplied food to all 3 schools.
