Foot-and-mouth disease [FMD] occurred in the central province of Quang Tri on [24 Sep 2008]. The samples taken from 15 infected cattle at 3 animal breeding households in Duy Tan hamlet, Lao Bao town, Huong Hoa district have been tested positive to the virus causing foot-and-mouth disease. The Quang Tri Veterinary service has isolated the said number of cattle for treatments. So far, only Quang Tri province is yet to be free from the disease after 21 days.

Viet Nam's central Nghe An province was stricken by foot-and-mouth disease [FMD], raising the number of affected localities to 2, local newspaper Youth reported Wednesday [23 Apr 2008].The disease affected 28 buffaloes and bulls in Nghe An from [15-21 Apr 2008], the paper quoted the Department of Animal Health under the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as saying.Now, the central provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh are being hit by the disease, said the department.Viet Nam – Foot and Mouth disease (HA TINH)

Appearing one week ago in Son Linh and Son Lam communes, foot-and-mouth disease [FMD] has attacked 50 cows and stags. According to Nguyen Quang Tho, Head of the Agriculture Division of Huong Son District, the 1st 2 ill cows were discovered on 23 Dec 2007. By 26 Dec 2007, 31 cows and 2 stags were reported ill. The number is now up to 50. Local authorities have taken measures to control the disease, including vaccinating 1500 cattle, decontaminating cow and stag cages, and setting up quarantine stations to prevent the transport of infected animals to other areas. Vice Chairman of Ha Tinh province also came to Huong Son to supervise treatment and prevention measures. After disappearing for several months, FMD returned to the central province of Nghe An in mid-November 2007 and has now moved to Ha Tinh province.
